KL Rahul was supposed to be back for IND vs ENG 4th Test in Ranchi. However, despite being 90% fit by 3rd Test in Rajkot, Rahul failed to recover from his injury in time, forcing him to miss the Ranchi Test. India batting coach Vikram Rathour has provided update on the batter after BCCI released a statement. As for Jasprit Bumrah, he is fully fit but the team management doesn’t is careful about his workload management considering injuries he has had. Hence, Rathour clarified that Bumrah is rested and there is no injury scare.
“KL Rahul is not fit at the moment. I don’t know about the percentage but as far as I am concerned, it’s either fit or unfit. As of now, he is unfit. BCCI’s medical team will be in a better position to know about the injury,” India batting coach Vikram Rathour said at the pre-match press conference ahead of IND vs ENG Test in Ranchi.
KL Rahul injury mystery
The India middle-order batter was ruled out of the 2nd Test after he complained of pain in right quadriceps. Back then, it was only a precaution and nothing serious.
While there were reports that he would be fit for the 3rd Test in Rajkot, that did not happen either. He remained at 90% fitness. While everyone expected him to be back at least for the 4th IND vs ENG Test, it did not happen either. He missed out on that too.
BCCI put out a statement but did not offer any clarity.
“Meanwhile, KL Rahul is ruled out of the 4th Test. His participation in the final Test match in Dharamsala is subject to fitness.”

Jasprit Bumrah not injured
However, Vikram Rathour is certain about Jasprit Bumrah. The premier pacer is missing the 4th Test as part of BCCI’s workload management.
He will be crucial in Dharamsala. But more importantly, Bumrah will have a long IPL 2024 season and the mega ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Having already missed the last edition of T20 WC and the WTC Final, it is crucial for India to have Bumrah fit. That’s why on a slightly spin-friendly pitch, India do not want to risk overwork Bumrah.
“Bumrah is fine. Every game is crucial. We would have loved to have Jasprit Bumrah for all the games but the kind of workload he has had, it was thought to give him rest. He was absolutely fine but we also have to keep in mind the workload ahead,” Vikram Rathour added.
