Bumrah needs no help from Rajkot pitch, says ex-India spinner, puts onus on toss

Ahead of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Rajkot, Harbhajan Singh dives into the Jasprit Bumrah factor and the importance of winning the toss

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that there is little that the Rajkot pitch can offer as help for someone of the caliber of Jasprit Bumrah. The ex-cricketer’s remarks come ahead of IND vs ENG 3rd Test.

IND vs ENG: The Bumrah factor and toss play

Harbhajan tells Gulf News that India should think about their approach over the pitches as they head into the third Test. He opines that someone like Bumrah doesn’t need any help from the pitch to perform. He cautions the hosts over England’s preparedness and warns them not to fall in their own trap.

“Somewhere down the line, Team India management need to sit and think that whether this is the right approach to take it forward or not. India has got a great team with some extraordinary players in their line-up. Someone like Bumrah doesn’t need any help from the pitch to perform, he is such a bowler. We have enough spinners and batters but what India need to understand is that the rivals are as much prepared as they are so they need to ensure that they prepare pitches where they don’t fall into their own trap,” Harbhajan Singh says.

Singh points out that the toss is crucial for the game. He feels that losing the toss would mean the result would be a foregone conclusion. He adds that one should be able to win the match despite losing the toss and that it isn’t the case with the pitch at Rajkot.

“In that scenario, toss becomes critical and if you lose the toss the result becomes a foregone conclusion. One should be able to win the match even after losing the toss and it can’t happen on such pitches,” Harbhajan added.
