IND vs ENG: Sunil Gavaskar predicts player who can pick England side up after heavy defeat at Lord’s – Virat Kohli’s Team India defeated England at Lord’s in the second Test of the five-match Test series on Monday. This was India’s third win at the venue in Test cricket. After the heartbreaking loss, England captain Joe Root is searching for a player who can uplift the team’s morale and help them level the series in Leeds Test. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has a suggestion for the English captain. Gavaskar thinks Ben Stokes can be the hero the home side is looking for.

Ind beat Eng at lord’s

Gavaskar in his column of The Telegraph India wrote, “If I were Joe Root, I would be on the hooter to Ben Stokes and implore him to come back and play for he is the kind of impact player who can turn it around for England. Sadly someone who was born to play the game is unable to do so and that’s not just England’s misfortune but that of the cricketing world too, for players like Stokes are once-in-a-generation cricketers.”’

Stokes withdrew from the Test series against India. He was expected to play a crucial role for the hosts as England will be looking to avenge their 3-1 Test series loss in India earlier this year. “England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break from all cricket with immediate effect,” ICC tweeted. The ECB fully supported Ben’s decision, and we will continue to help him during this period away from the game.

In August 2019, Ben Stokes took the cricketing world by storm when he played one of the greatest Test knocks ever witnessed to lead England to a miraculous victory over Australia in the third match of the Ashes series at Headingley. Stokes’s unbelievable knock of 135 not out off 219 balls helped England chase down the mammoth target of 359, which was also their highest successful run chase in Test history.
