IND vs ENG: Root and reverse scoop threat

During a discussion on Star Sports, the former India cricketer elaborated on how Root have evolved as a cricketer, pointing out at his reverse scoop shots in Test cricket. Gavaskar said that it was not expected of the former England skipper who was considered to be an orthodox player. Further, he pointed out that the most of the greats who were from Yorkshire were players who were technically rich.

He (Joe Root) has evolved his game. He is now playing reverse scoop in Test cricket. It was not expected from him as he is a very orthodox cricketer. He belongs to Yorkshire where generally orthodox cricketers come from,” Gavaskar said.

“But from the past two years, Root has been revers scooping. So if a batter has that much confidence to hit a good ball to a six with a reverse scoop, so you have to be aware of such batter,” he added.
