Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan on Monday received his maiden call-up to India’s Test team on Monday. The BCCI named Sarfaraz as one of the replacements after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out for the 2nd Test. Sarfaraz Khan’s father Naushan Khan took to social media after his son’s call-up was made official. Sarfaraz’s father in a video message thanked the BCCI, selectors and fans for showing faith in him and backing him to play for the country.
Despite being one of the best run-scorers in the domestic circuit in the past couple of years, the 26-year old was still struggling to break into the Indian Test team. But the right-handed batter was no longer an afterthought for the selectors after scoring 161, 4, and 55 against the England Lions in two unofficial Tests in Ahmedabad earlier this month.
Reacting to the news of his first-ever selection in the Indian team, Sarfaraz’s father said, “You all know that Sarfaraz got his maiden Test call-up today. I want to thank everyone, especially Mumbai Cricket Association where he grew up. Also, the National Cricket Academy where he gained experience, BCCI and the selectors for trusting in him, and all his fans who prayed for him and supported him.
“We all hope that he always plays well for the country and contributes to the team’s win,” said Naushad Khan.
