India Cricket Team ace pacer Mohammed Shami is set to miss at least the first 2 Tests of the IND vs ENG Test series. Shami who suffered an ankle injury hasn’t played a game for India post the ODI World Cup final. The dependable bowler is yet to resume bowling in the nets and is therefore unlikely to be available for the opening 2 Test matches against England.
Mohammed Shami has been India’s best bowler in the ODI World Cup after being the highest wicket taker despite playing 4 matches less. But with his injury, he missed out the entire tour of South Africa.
But the delay continues. Shami is yet to be fit. In fact as per the latest reports, Shami is yet to start bowling in the nets. The veteran pacer will have to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and prove his fitness.
“Shami hasn’t even started to bowl, he will have to go to NCA and prove his fitness. He looks doubtful for the first two Tests against England,” a source from the Indian board informed The Indian Express.
BCCI unwilling to FastTrack Shami’s Recovery
The BCCI is unwilling to Fasttrack Mohammed Shami’s recovery. Previously the BCCI announced that Shami will be available for the SA tour only if he gets fit. But now, the apex body is unwilling to risk an early comeback. India already has 2 veteran pacers for the IND vs ENG Test series in the form of Bumrah and Siraj.
With India’s preferring turning pitches in home, there is no absolute necessary for a hushed comeback for Shami. As a result, Shami when fit can get into the squad, but is most likely to miss the first 2 matches.
