What happened when Kohli last came to Edgbaston?
Kohli’s last, and so far, his only Test outing at Edgbaston was in August of 2018. Though India lost that match against England by 31 runs, the-then Indian skipper had an excellent outing with the bat. He scored 149 runs in the first innings, and then backed it up with a knock of 51 runs in the second innings.
What has changed since then?
A lot. Basically, everything has changed, or turned upside down, for the 33-year-old lad from Delhi. Notably, before that match at Edgbaston, Kohli had 21 Test centuries to his name. But since that knock, he has scored only five Test centuries in the last four years.
Moreover, what is even more concerning for the Indian team is that Kohli has not scored a Test century for nearly three years. His last Test ton, which also happened to be his last century for the national team, came way back in November of 2019, in a Test match against Bangladesh.

As shown clearly in the statistics, Kohli has been on a downward spiral since that fighting knock at Edgbaston. His average has gone down considerably, while the Indian fanbase has not seen a big knock from his bat in recent times. Hence, the former Indian skipper will look to turn things around at a ground that has been generous to him in the past.
