3rd session summary: The third session belonged to India and it is where India put England under pressure. Although England ended up with the big wicket of Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur, Pant did enough to put the hosts on the backfoot. Pant scored at 130+ strike rate, scoring his 5th Test century while Jadeja smashed his 6th half-century in SENA countries to rescue India. In the third session, the two dominated, especially taking Jack Leach out of the contest completely. Leach went for 71 in 9 overs.

2nd session summary: India had a mixed 2nd session. India started poorly with Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli departing in quick succession. The spell from Matty Potts left India scratching from options. Virat Kohli was clean-bowled by Potts while Vihari was trapped leg before. Soon, Shreyas Iyer also departed, troubled by bouncers. But then began India’s fight back with Rishabh Pant leading from the front. With Jadeja, Pant stitched together an unbeaten 76-run stand to lead India to 174/5 at Tea.

1st session summary: Sent to bat, India were off to a decent start. But Shubman Gill failed to survive Anderson’s first-hour test. He departed for 17, ending the opening stand at just 27. While Hanuma Vihari and other opener Cheteshwar Pujara looked to rebuild, Anderson came back to strike again in his 2nd spell. His wicket of Pujara dealt a major blow. Before Kohli and Vihari looked to steady the ship, rain called for early lunch.
