IND vs ENG live: Team India’s warm-up fixture ended in a draw on Sunday but the players received some much-needed match practice. India had all of their stars lining up for practice ahead of their game against Leicestershire. With the rescheduled IND vs ENG 5th test being a make-or-break game, India have left no shortage of preparation. Here at Inside, we look at 5 benefits from the India vs Leicestershire tour match.

1. KL’s replacement – Gill

India suffered a major blow before their departure for UK, with vice-captain KL Rahul being ruled out with injury. Rahul was a prolific run-getter and Gill has put his hand up in the LSG captain’s absence. After two failures, Shubman Gill showcased his skill with a fine fifty in the fourth innings.

2. Pant, Kohli return to form

Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli both were amongst the runs after a dismal past couple of months. Pant scored a counter-attacking half-century Day 2 with some aggressive shot making. Kohli also joined the act in the next innings but departed after scoring a fine 68. With the middle order not having much of experience, onus will be on Kohli and Pant to deliver the load.

3. Ashwin fit and firing

It took the final day of the contest for Ravichandran Ashwin to come and bowl. Having been put under quarantine, Ashwin returned to the team on Sunday. The veteran also bowled on the final day, scalping two wickets including that Gill’s 62.

4. Jadeja’s all-round show

Ravindra Jadeja also returned from injury well and put in a fine performance during the game. The left-hander scored a fine half-century on Day 3, while also bagging important during the game. Jadeja will most likely feature as the 6th bowler, and where both his skills with bat and ball could come to use.

5. Emergence of KS Bharat

KS Bharat has been in and around the Indian setup for long. Awarded an opportunity to open in the warm-up game, Bharat cracked a fine 70 in the 1st innings, followed by 43 in the second innings. With concerns about Rohit Sharma’s ability, Bharat’s availability and his form could be a good option for the night out.
