While Indian captain Rohit Sharma had no complaints about the performance of the batters and the bowlers, it was the fielding that let India down in Rose Bowl. England never got into the 199-run chase but were handed as many as five reprieves.
In a contagious evening for missed chances, it was veteran Dinesh Karthik who set the ball rolling, dropping Harry Brook in the final over of the powerplay. DK was again at the centre of another missed chance, as a mix with Bhuvneshwar Kumar handed Brook another opportunity. It was a horror night for Dinesh Karthik, who later missed out on a diving catch off Hardik’s bowling.
Suryakumar Yadav was next to drop one at the cover, as he failed to hold onto to a rather straightforward catch. Moeen Ali smashed Yuzvendra Chahal through the covers and SKY did well to make his ground, but failed to keep it in his grasp. Deepak Hooda completed the set when he dropped the easiest of catches, with the LSG man dropping a dolly at long-off.

While the missed chances did not cost India the game, it would add to their concerns with this tour being a vital preparation ground for the T20 World Cup. Captain Rohit Sharma was naturally disappointed by the lapses in the field. He however assured fans that it was a one-off day and things were bound to improve in the coming games.
“Great performance from ball one. All batters showed intent. Although the pitch was good, we played good shots and never got ahead of the game. But we were sloppy on the field. Those catches should have been taken. Pretty sure we will field pretty well in the coming games,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.
