The duo is leading the Indian batting by example with a 50+ average. Rahul and Rohit are persisting well with the bat where the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and even skipper Virat Kohli have struggled. The duo have ensured that they did not expose the middle-order early on in the innings. They have spent quality time on the crease and ensured that the ball loses the shine make it easier for the upcoming batsmen. The duo has also put an end to India’s woes in the opening department. India has so far put three-fifty partnerships in the last 4 Tests, including 97 and 126 at the first two tests respectively.

IND vs ENG: The two batsmen have been rock solid in the last few matches for India. KL Rahul is among only two centurions in the ongoing Test series. He had brought a ton in the second Test at Lord’s. The right-handed batsman is the second-highest run-scorer in the series with 315 runs in 4 Tests. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been impressive with a couple of fifties and other crucial knocks. He has already amassed 250+ runs to follow KL Rahul in the top run-scorer list.

The performance of these two stalwarts have definitely ended Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal’s chances of making it to the playing XI. Mayank Agarwal had missed the opening Test due to an injury and Rahul cemented the place with back to back crucial knocks. On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw has been added to the squad as a backup and is unlikely to play ahead of Mayank Agarwal.

Earlier in 2021, the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had managed only 3 fifty partnerships in 7 Tests. Shubman Gill had left the tour after the WTC final due to a shin injury. The development came as a blessing in disguise for India as KL Rahul delivered. Gill, meanwhile, will find it challenging to re-enter the squad after fitness.
