Finally, former England skipper Joe Root bounced back to form as he scored his 31st Test century in the fourth match against India in Ranchi, on Friday. Garnering a lot of criticism for his poor batting form, and the ‘stupidest’ shot during the Rajkot Test, Root silenced his critics, to enter the record books again.
His hundred on the first day of the Test came at a crucial time as his knock was solely responsible for bailing the visitors out of trouble, when they were reeling at 112/5, at one stage. He strung a partnership of 113 with Ben Foakes, who was eventually out for 47.
Joe Root Bounces Back to Form
Root, who got his last century in Tests, way back in June 2023 vs Australia, finally managed to get a triple-digit score after 14 innings, thus marking his poor run. In fact, in the 14 innings, he had only two fifties to his name, with 91 being his highest-score.
Not just that, this is his 10th ton against India, and averages over 58 vs them in 29 innings, having scored over 2700 runs. To go with that, he has scored 11 fifties vs India as well.
