Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour on Wednesday urged the Indian batters to be more responsible in their shot selection ahead of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. After the team’s dismal loss in the IND vs ENG 1st Test, Rathour sought more discipline from the team’s batters. The Indian batters faltered in the series opener against the visiting English side, losing wickets playing sloppy shots.
The IND vs ENG 1st Test was not a good advertisement for the Indian batting line-up, although most of the India batters were on song during the first innings. Three batters scored 50+ runs and a couple of batters made 40+ in the first innings. However, the Indians faltered big time in their second innings. None of the Indian batters got past the 50 run mark as India were bowled out for a paltry 202, losing the match by 28 runs. Moreover, some batters got out playing rash shots, and that must be worrying for a team management seeking to be the best Test team in the world.
Speaking to the media ahead of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Vikram Rathour explained what the team management sought from the Indian batters going ahead in the series.
“I want batters to show more discipline. Intent should be there, but they have to decide which shot to play, always want them to score runs,” Rathour said.
