Ex-England pacer credits Stokes, McCullum for fueling 41-year-old Anderson

Former England pacer Steve Finn lauded McCullum and Stokes for making Anderson look like he was 21 years old in IND vs ENG series

Former England pacer Steve Finn attributes 41-year-old James Anderson’s enthusiasm to the environment cultivated by Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. The duo introduced the all-new Bazball approach which has worked for the side in most cases. Finn’s remarks about an ageless Anderson come amid the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series.

IND vs ENG: The Stokes-McCullum boost for Anderson

Speaking to TNT Sports, Finn credits McCullum and Stokes for cultivating an environment that fuels Anderson to be enthusiastic despite his age. He remarks that this approach would mean one could get to see the 41-year-old play for a longer time in Test cricket.

The fact that he is still waking up each day and is enthused to play Test-match cricket at the intensity that he is, I think speaks a lot about him. It also speaks a lot about the environment that Stokes and McCullum have cultivated because if you’re making a fast bowler get up every day and feel like he can influence a Test match at this stage of his career, to enthuse him to keep on going and keep going round the houses, that speaks a lot for the environment that they’ve created as well.

Finn points out that Anderson is flying in the face of ageing. He adds that it looked like the veteran pacer had gone away for a while and worked hard on himself. Finn cites Anderson’s run-up in the current series compared to in the Ashes to drive home his point.
