Ravichandran Ashwin was denied his 500th Test wicket after a confusion owing to DRS delayed his wait at the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. Tom Hartley, who was at the crease, attempted to sweep Ash’s delivery, resulting in the ball brushing past his forearm before finding itself in KS Bharat’s hands.
IND vs ENG: Ashwin’s wait for 500 continues ft. DRS
England’s Tom Hartley decided to review the decision after the on-field umpire signaled out for caught behind. And this is where the confusion began. First, ultra edge was used to determine if it was a caught behind. With no bat or glove involved, ball tracking was brought into play.
Ball tracking went on to show that the delivery went on to hit the stumps but it was umpire’s call. Thus, the decision for LBW remained the same as the on-field umpire’s call for LBW was not out.
