Ind vs Eng Day 1 – Shardul Thakur: Shardul Thakur reveals secret behind success with the bat, credits batting coach after fifty- Team India’s lower order batsman Shardul Thakur, who scored his 2nd Test fifty, here at the  Kennington Oval, London on Day 1 of the fourth Test match against England on Friday, has revealed that playing with the straight bat is the reason behind his success in Test match cricket as a batsman. He also gave credit to Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour who guided him in order to improve his batting.

When asked what is the reason behind him playing with the straight bat and how did he get success in Test cricket with it. “I think playing with the straight bat is the key as it gives you more runs. It swings and seam a lot in here. So for batsmen, it is important to play with a straight bat and score runs. In recent times my batting has also improved. I have discussed this with our batting coach and the throwdown expert and they also suggested I to play with a straight bat whenever the opportunity comes “

Shardul Thakur hits fifty

Thakur on Thursday scored a quickfire half-century to steady hosts. He made the lightwork of England pacers by dominating James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, Craig Overton. Thakur smashed fifty off just 31 balls. It was the only second fifty in his Test career that propelled India’s score near 200 runs after a disappointing show by the top order. He walked in when India were struggling at 127/7. He went on to smash 57 runs off 36 balls at a strike rate of 158.

When asked how much pressure does he take of the team’s expectation from him he said,  “We must take responsibility for the team. It does not matter if you are a pacer or a spinner. If something is needed to be done I must do it by hook or by crook, I take it like this. I take it as a challenge, I must make an impact with my bat and ball at the same time.”

Ind vs Eng Day 1 – Shardul Thakur: After bundling out Team India for 191, England got off to a bad start as openers Rory Burns (5) and Haseeb Hameed (0) were sent back to the pavilion in the fourth over by Jasprit Bumrah. On the cusp of stumps, Umesh Yadav got the big fish as he clean bowled England captain Joe Root (21) and the hosts were reduced to 52/3. In the end, Malan and Overton ensured that England does not lose more wickets before stumps.
