Ind vs Eng: Big setback to England, Stuart Broad ruled out of entire Test series due to injury
Ind vs Eng: Broad sustained the injury during the warm-up on Tuesday afternoon at Lord’s. As per UK media reports, the 35-year-old was not able to place any weight on his right leg after the incident. He might have undergone a calf strain or Achilles tendon problem that could even rule him out of the ongoing five-match series. Broad was supposed to play his 150th Test at the Mecca of Cricket, but now his place in XI is in jeopardy. The pacer had taken a lone wicket against India in the opening Test. Stuart Broad’s injury could open a place for Mark Wood to enter the playing XI and join the likes of James Anderson, Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson. (India tour of England)
England Cricket Board’s statement
“England seamer Stuart Broad has sustained a tear to his right calf and has been ruled out of the LV= Insurance Test series against India. He underwent an MRI scan in London on Wednesday lunchtime, which revealed a tear. Broad sustained the injury during the warm-up on Tuesday afternoon at Lord’s. England have called up Lancashire seamer Saqib Mahmood as cover.”
Ind vs Eng: Earlier, England pacer Jofra Archer was ruled out for a year. ECB confirmed that the recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow in the latest scans held last week has ruled him out of all cricket commitments for the rest of the year. Archer also missed Phase 1 of the cash-rich league due to the injury. (India tour of England)
