IND vs ENG: Ruturaj Gaikwad out injured, Abhimanyu Eashwaran to get lifeline in Tests

Bengal’s very own Abhimanyu Eashwaran is set to get a lifeline in the India Squad for upcoming IND vs ENG Test series. Ruturaj Gaikwad who has suffered a ring finger injury which has ruled him out of the IND vs AFG T20I series and also the first part of the IND vs ENG Test squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad who suffered a ring fracture injury in South Africa is undergoing a recovery. He will not only miss the T20I series against AFG, but also miss the first part of the ENG series. It can be expected that Gaikwad is set to miss the opening 2 Test matches against the Three Lions.

Abhimanyu Eashwaran is yet to get his break in the India Cricket Team. But he gets a lifeline for the IND vs ENG Test series, courtesy of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury. Eashwaran who was with the India A squad on a shadow tour in South Africa got incorporated in the main team as an opener backup.

The case will be applicable in the first 2 Test matches against England till Ruturaj Gaikwad gets fit. On the other hand, Abhimanyu Eashwaran will go on to lead the India A squad for a 2-day warm-up fixture & first multi-day game against England Lions.

AS for the India Squad, the IND vs ENG squad is yet to be released. But it is expected that Ajit Agarkar and Rahul Dravid will be keen to select Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the openers. Eashwaran will slot in as the backup opener in the team till Gaikwad gets fit and returns to the squad.
