Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday broke the back of the England batting line up in the second innings with a fifer that saw the visitors being bundled out for 122 in the 2nd innings of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test. India declared their 2nd innings at 430/4, providing a huge target of 556 for England to chase in the second innings. The task was tall, and Jadeja made it tougher by producing a magical spell to which England had no answers.
Jadeja started his onslaught by taking the wicket of Ollie Pope. Jadeja pitched the ball up and it turned slightly to take an edge of Pope. Indian captain Rohit Sharma held on to a smart catch. Jadeja then trapped Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root plumb in front of the wicket to send the middle order packing.
Jadeja’s next wicket came in the form of England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes. Foakes tried to cut a ball just outside off-stump. It took a nick and landed on the gloves of debutant wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel who did well to hold on to the catch.
England were 9 down and Jadeja needed another wicket to complete his fifer. It arrived in the form of Mark Wood who looked menacing in his approach. However, Wood, trying to play the ‘Bazball’ way, ended up lifting the ball to mid off where Yashasvi Jaiswal did enough to hold on to the catch. It was a fantastic display from Jadeja who had also got a century in India’s first innings.
