IND vs ENG 2nd Test – Root’s SOS to Moeen: A struggling England side has called up experienced off-spin all-rounder Moeen Ali for the 2nd Test at Lord’s beginning Thursday. Captain Joe Root and coach Chris Silverwood sent an SOS to Moeen Ali after a batting collapse in the 1st Test. With Ali in lower-order, he will provide England with the batting depth.
“Moeen is certainly under consideration. It’s something I will talk about with Joe Root,” said head coach Silverwood on Monday.
‘We know he’s a fine cricketer and he’s showing good form in the Hundred at the moment, even though that’s a different format. It’s something that has to be in our mind.’, Silverwood was quoted by DailyMail.
On Tuesday, as per ESPNCricinfo, Moeen Ali has been called up and has joined the team’s practice in London straight from The Hundred. The all-rounder, although hasn’t played any first-class cricket in the last 23 months, he has been in form in white-ball cricket. In the Hundred, he slammed 59 while also bowled an economical spell. Back in IPL 2021, he shined both with the ball and the bat.
When asked if he was looking forward to playing the 2nd Test. “Of course if you get the call-up, then playing for England is the highest thing you can get. If I get the call then I’ll be available. It’s a win-win for me, things are going really well for me here and the team,” Moeen Ali told BBC.
IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Moeen Ali recalled, Haseeb Hameed in line for 2nd Test
England playing XI – India vs England LORD’s TEST: Moeen is not the only one who England coach is likely to recall. Amid repeated batting failures by the top order, Test discards Haseeb Hameed is also in line for a comeback to the England XI. Skipper Joe Root was the only positive for England in the batting department as other batsmen even failed to score a fifty. With a number of changes expected in the second Test, England coach Chris Silverwood indicated that Haseeb Hameed is closer to a Test recall.
‘I would rather be accused of giving somebody one too many chances than not enough – I’ve made that clear from the start – but at some point, I will have to make a decision,’ Silverwood told Dailymail.

England playing XI Lords Test
IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Zak Crawley is likely to be axed from England playing XI after averaging just 11+ in the last 7 Tests.
England playing XI Notably, Haseeb Hammed had last played for England in November 2016. A broken finger had cut short his impressive start to his England career in India. He then lost his form but now has rebuilt his game with a century against India in a warm-up match in Durham.
‘I’m confident he’s as ready as he could be. I think he is making a very strong case and at some point, we may make a decision and give him an opportunity,’ Silverwood stated.
‘He’s been fantastic. As a bloke he’s fitted in beautifully, he works extremely hard and he’s looked extremely good in the nets. He put his best foot forward in Durham when he scored that hundred and what he did an early season in the championship shows there’s a lot of class there as well,’ he added.
