IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Jasprit Bumrah rips through England to give India upper hand after Day 2

India had ended Day 336/6 with questions over Indian batters inability to score big runs, but Jasprit Bumrah's brilliance has seen them end the second day with a 171 run lead.

Jasprit Bumrah was virtually unplayable on Day 2 of the India vs England 2nd Test. There seemed to be no stopping the Indian pace spearhead. The England cricket team had no answers to Bumrah’s questions.

After getting bashed in his opening spell (4-0-24-0) by Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, Bumrah returned with vengeance. He cleaned the English middle order up, sending numbers 3 to 6 to the pavilion and returning to clean up the tail after that.

Jasprit Bumrah totally shifted the momentum in India’s favor as he claimed his first-ever six-wicket haul in India. He also became the fastest Indian and second-fastest Asian pacer to take 150 Test wickets. Having already been touted as the greatest Indian pacer of all time, the Indian vice captain validated everyone’s assessment of him as an all-time great.

Ben Stokes and Co. dominate the first session

Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring his maiden double hundred, India managed to score just 60 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first session. England claimed the session both with bat and bowl, scoring 32 runs in 6 overs for no loss after dismissing India for 396.

England, no match for Jasprit Bumrah!

But the second session turned the game on its head. At one point, England were 114/1, scoring nearly five runs an over. But the untimely dismissal of Zak Crawley opened the floodgates.

Jasprit Bumrah started by setting up Joe Root with a fabulous display of reverse swing. In his next over, he bowled a toe-crushing, reversing swinging yorker that no one in the world could play to dismiss last match’s hero, Ollie Pope.

He then got Jonny Bairstow out in the slips and castled skipper Ben Stokes to reach the 150 Test wickets milestone. He followed that by sending Tom Hartley and finally ending the proceedings with James Anderson’s wicket to complete his maiden 6-fer in India.

The Indian openers played the remaining 6 overs of the day with caution, scoring 28 runs for no loss. At the end of Day 2, the India cricket team has gained a 171-run lead in Vizag.
