England had the upper hand on Day 3 of IND vs ENG 2nd Test at Vishakhapatnam as India crumbled after a stellar show from Shubman Gill. The visitors were on point from the start of the day’s play, playing aggressive cricket. Barring Gill’s century, Indian batters failed to taste success as India were bowled out for 255 runs, leaving England needing 399 runs to win the game.

With Zak Crawley and nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed at the crease at the end of play on Day 3, England require 332 runs on Day 4 to go 2-0 up in the series.

IND vs ENG: England dominate Day 3, eye to go up 2-0

England clawed their way back into the 2nd Test on Day 3, exploiting early breakthroughs to put the brakes on India’s scoring. Skipper Ben Stokes’ aggressive tactics paid off, with James Anderson weaving another magical spell of swing bowling.

Rohit Sharma’s off-stump was sent cartwheeling by a beauty that straightened ever so slightly after pitching. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t replicate his first-innings heroics, edging one to the slips. Shreyas Iyer saw yet another failure after a promising start while Rajat Patidar couldn’t sustain himself at the crease for long.

The star of the day for India was undoubtedly Shubman Gill, who dominated the 2nd session of the day’s play with a scintillating century. The India ‘s no.3 batter scored 104 runs before falling to Shoaib Bashir. Axar Patel played a handy 45-run knock before he was dismissed and what followed was disastrous for the hosts.

An unsettled KS Bharat couldn’t manage any hometown heroics as he managed to score only 6 runs. While Kuldeep Yadav was dismissed for a duck, Ashwin and Bumrah slowed down India’s momentum in the 3rd session. Ashwin only managed to score 29 runs off 61 deliveries whereas Bumrah got out for a duck after playing 26 deliveries in 44 minutes.

England’s spinners had the upper hand at the close of India’s 2nd innings, with Rehan Ahmed grabbing three wickets while Tom Hartley finished with 4 scalps to his name.

Ashwin, who went wicketless in the 1st innings, got rid of opener Ben Duckett in his very first over in the 2nd innings.
