IND vs ENG 1st Test: Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismal run continues, falls cheaply on 4: India’s batting mainstay- Cheteshwar Pujara’s eclipsed batting phase continues even in England. No sooner he took to crease post-lunch (after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal) on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against England at Trent Bridge, he departed after scoring just 4 runs. He fell prey to a late swinging delivery by James Anderson that edged past his bat in soft touch that was caught by Jos Buttler behind the stumps.

Just balls prior to his dismissal, Ollie Robinson’s swinging ball also troubled India’s right-handed batsman. The inswinging ball turned back in and struck him above the knee-roll but slightly missed the stumps by a margin thus offering a chance to Pujara. The 33-year-old, as always was outplayed again in the English conditions- something which has been his weakness for long.
Pujara’s mire in 2021
The start of the 2021 cricketing calendar didn’t go well for the senior player. In the 8 matches he played for India in whites, he made 13 outings with the bat and mustered 368 runs. His poor average- 28.30 continues to be a matter of concern in his ongoing batting form.
The senior batsman’s batting woes continue to haunt him on England soil. In a total of 21 innings played on English turf, Pujara has aggregated just 527 runs. His average of 26.35 is one of his lowest compared to what compared to his performance in Australia.
