England captain Ben Stokes is on a roll! The English all-rounder, returning from injury, stood out with his gritty batting in the IND vs ENG 1st Test. Stokes took the attack to the opposition in a day where England batters struggled to find their feet. Stokes brought up his 50 in style, hitting consecutive sixes to Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the 61st over.
England struggled on Day 1 of the first Test, with no batter apart from Stokes scoring a half century. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett put up a decent opening partnership, but the Indian bowlers started dominating their rivals soon in Hyderabad. England kept losing wickets consistently before Stokes came in and started the counter-attack.
Stokes played some wonderful shots even as wickets kept tumbling from the other end. Stokes was batting on 44 when Ravichandran Ashwin came to bowl in the 61st over. Ben Stokes tried to slog the first ball of the over, but missed.
Ashwin tossed up the next ball and Stokes took full advantage. The Southpaw came down the pitch and hammered the ball over long-on for a six to bring up his half-century.
Stokes took a chance in the next ball too and it paid off again. Ashwin dropped the ball short, anticipating Stokes’ move. But Stokes rocked back in his backfoot and heaved the ball over deep mid wicket this time, much to the England dressing room’s delight.
