IND vs BAN: Yash Dayal begins India camp hoping for Test debut, Bumrah returns after T20 WC heroics

India cricket team‘s new bowling coach Morne Morkel jumped straight into action at the team’s preparatory camp in Chennai ahead of IND vs BAN Tests. The series will mark the South African’s first assignment as the coach for the Men in Blue. The series marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah for the first time since the T20 World Cup.

Morkel gets straight into business with Bumrah, Dayal

As per ESPNCricinfo, Jasprit Bumrah was involved in light fitness drills following which he was seen having a chat with Morne Morkel. This is the first time that the Proteas star is working with India’s star pacer. On the other hand, Yash Dayal had an intense training session. His session was personally overseen by head coach Gautam Gambhir and Morkel. As per reports, Dayal had to clear a ‘sterner workload’ as the coaches aim to get him prepared for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Morkel is a familiar face to work with for head coach Gambhir, having worked together with him previously for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL.

While Morkel was previosuly associated with the Pakistan cricket team for the ODI World Cup in 2023, he ended his stint prematurely ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. He replaced Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach after Rahul Dravid’s stint as head coach came to an end and was succeeded by Gambhir. The series will mark the beginning of a new era for India, who will be playing under a new set of coaches and support staff.
