IND vs BAN: Spotlight on batters as India desperate to turn the tide in the third ODI – Fair to say India’s batting has let them in both ODIs so far. The two batting stalwarts Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have failed to get going. Barring Shreyas Iyer, no batter has shown consistency. Worst, apart from Rohit Sharma, India won’t have the services of Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar. The two pacers are out due to back stiffness and hamstring trouble respectively.
The spotlight will be on batters, and the likes of Kohli, Dhawan, and KL Rahul are set to have extended nets session. Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tripathi and Rajat Patidar are all fighting to replace an injured Rohit. A good training session would help them stamp their claim.
Team India practice: What is in store?
- India are dealing with an injury crisis with only 13 players available.
- Captain Rohit Sharma is out, with vice-captain KL Rahul in charge.
- Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Sen are also out of the series.
- Shahbaz Ahmed is certain to make a return in Chattogram.
- Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tripathi and Rajat Patidar fight to replace Rohit
- Extended net sessions after disappointing collapses in both games.
While Kishan has featured for India, Patidar and Tripathi are yet to debut for visitors. As for bowling, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have done well. Shardul Thakur has to buck up if India harbours hopes of restricting Bangladesh to a low score.
Meanwhile, with Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Sen both out, India’s fast-bowling stocks have depleted. KL Rahul may be forced to play an extra spinner with Shahbaz Ahmed coming in for Chahar. The RCB all-rounder featured in the 1st ODI but was later replaced by Axar Patel.
It remains unclear where KL Rahul bats on Saturday. He stuck to his middle-order role in both games, with Virat Kohli opening the batting on Wednesday. The stand-in skipper had a mixed return in the two games with scores of 73 and 14. He thus could return to the top in Rohit’s absence.
India ODI Squad: KL Rahul (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik
