Rahul who is also donning the wicket-keeper duties for the 1st ODI in Bangladesh looked the most fluent of the Indian batters in Dhaka. While others struggled, Rahul looked class apart. He faced 70 balls, scored 73 runs, with the help of five boundaries and four sixes..
He looked assured both on the front foot and off the back foot, especially, against the turning ball on a damp Dhaka wicket. His innings was a masterclass for the more experienced batsmen in the dugout. The Karnataka lad focused on rotating the strike rate initially, but didn’t miss out on any scoring opportunity.
His half-century was the sole reason why India reached a score in excess of 150. He is probably the best player of spin in Indian team currently, and he once again showed it why, on a turner in Dhaka.
Rahul enjoys the additional responsibility
One should also not forget that KL Rahul is also donning the role of a wicket-keeper in the 1st ODI in Dhaka. He first took the role of a part-time wicket-keeping duties in 2020. This was the time when Team India was getting ready for the post-MS Dhoni era.
He hasn’t done badly for India as a wicketkeeper in ODIs. Before this game, the right-handed batter scored 474 runs at an average of 67.71. He also has one ton and four half-centuries and a strike rate of 113.12.
Rahul’s form has been subjected to criticism by experts and fans off late. This over his inconsistent performances in the past. However, by scoring a timely half-century, and that too at a crucial juncture, has done wonders not just to his confidence but also repays the faith shown in him, by the team management.
50-run partnership comes up between KL Rahul and Washington Sundar off 61 deliveries.
