IND vs BAN: Sai Kishore’s hopes of making Test debut at hometown dashed despite being ‘ready for Tests’

Sai Kishore, who had issued an open challenge to chief selector Ajit Agarkar before the Duleep Trophy, has not been picked for IND vs BAN

The wait for Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore to make his India cricket team debut is extended as he wasn’t named in the squad for IND vs BAN Tests. The Tamil Nadu spinner found no place in the squad that comprised of four spinners – Ashwin, Jadeja , Kuldeep and Axar. Ahead of the Duleep Trophy, Kishore had claimed he was one of the best spinners in the country and that he was ready for Tests.

No Test debut yet for Sai Kishore

Sai Kishore always had a tough task in hand in terms of getting into the Indian side, given that the side has other experienced spinners. The return of Ashwin and Jadeja to the Test setup means there was little room left for Kishore to secure a spot in the team. With the selectors favouring all-rounder Axar Patel and full-time spinner Kuldeep Yadav, the Tamil Nadu spinner has no option but to watch the game on from outside.

The first IND vs BAN Test will be played at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, the hometown of both Ashwin and Sai Kishore. Had the latter been picked, he would have made his Test debut in front of his own crowd.

What Sai Kishore had said earlier

I feel I am one of the best spinners in the country. Put me in a Test match, I am ready. So, I am not worried too much,” Sai Kishore had said earlier, ahead of the Duleep Trophy.

After a great season with the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, Sai Kishore starred in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) as a pure batter. He picked up a freak injury during the IPL which forced him to stay away from bowling. He then made his comeback in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament and subsequently played in the first game of Duleep Trophy.
