IND vs BAN: Opening after 8 years, Virat Kohli’s LEAN PATCH in ODIs continues, Star India batter CLEAN BOWLED in Dhaka – Watch Video
Virat Kohli opened the batting in ODIs for the first time in 8 years in the 2nd ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday. Kohli was promoted up the order due to Rohit Sharma’s injury. The Hit-Man hurt his finger attempting to take a catch and had to visit the hospital to have a scan.
Despite KL Rahul’s presence, it was Kohli who opened the batting with Shikhar Dhawan. The 34-year-old was far from comfortable, eventually dismissed in just six deliveries. The star India batter inside-edged a pull shot, which crashed straight into his stumps.
It was the first time since 2014 that Kohli opened the batting. In his 255 ODI innings, the Indian superstar has opened only 7 times. In those instances, Virat has scored 166 runs with just one score of above fifty. Interestingly, Kohli began his career as an opening batter in 2008 against Sri Lanka but was soon shifted to the middle order. In his last innings as an opener in 2014, Kohli managed two runs off just 10 balls in Seddon Park vs New Zealand.
