KL Rahul is not having a good time in the 50-over format this year
The right-handed batsman has played 6 ODIs this year. In which, he has managed to score just 156 runs at an average of 26.0. Rahul has only one half-century. Looking at Rahul’s numbers in ODI cricket this year, the senior batter needs to have a good outing in Bangladesh. Else, he might be shown the exit doors before the 2023 World Cup.
Where does KL Rahul fit in India’s ODI team?
- KL Rahul has played in both opening and middle-order positions for India in ODIs.
- There might be a debate that Rahul should open with Rohit. However, Shikhar Dhawan might have an edge over Rahul considering his seniority and better numbers than Rahul.
- One more thing that works in Dhawan’s favour is that he is a left-handed batter. As a result, the team management might be tempted to go with the left-right opening combination.
- If not Dhawan, then another left-handed batter Ishan Kishan is in the line to take the opening spot.
- Rahul might find it harder to get his place in the middle order too.
- The Number 3 and 4 position are surely booked for Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.
- Indian management needs to choose between Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson for No 5 & 6 spots.
- Considering Iyer’s good form during the NewZealand tour, it will be interesting to see where Rahul fits in.
