IND vs BAN Live: When India’s openers were dismissed early on Day 2 in Mirpur, Virat Kohli walked in with the same swagger and unshakeable confidence he is known for. Much has been said about Kohli’s desire to end his Test century drought after finishing the ODI series with a brilliant ton. He looked good for a while, scoring a patient 24, but he never got going. When Kohli was out for 24 to Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed in the 38th over, the entire country and Kohli fans were devastated. The wait for his Test ton and 73rd international century lasted another day. Follow IND vs Ban 2nd Test Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

It is highly likely that Kohli will end 2022 without a Test hundred to his name. His last Test ton coincidentally came against Bangladesh in November 2019 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. A lot was expected from Kohli’s willow, who showed tremendous patience and endurance on a tricky Mirpur wicket, but just couldn’t go on and make a big one to end his Test ton drought.

Fans were left broken after watching their hero’s struggle in Test cricket extending beyond their wildest of imaginations.

Bowling coach Allan Donald would be ecstatic after seeing the back of Virat Kohli in the first innings in Mirpur.

Virat Kohli was eager to end his Test century drought, but Bangladesh bowling coach Allan Donald had devised special strategies to keep the legendary batter at bay. Donald’s message to Kohli was clear: “I won’t give any chances,” and he was correct.

Donald’s pep talk to Bangladeshi bowlers says get your line and lengths right – Kohli’s weakness in Test cricket is balls that are bowled outside the off stump and getting out to left-arm spinners. In the first Test left-arm spin bowler, Taijul got the better of Kohli. Donald’s message is clear for the boys, maintain tight line and lengths.

“It’s like bowling to Tendulkar & you know when that man walks to the crease the value of getting it right is absolutely paramount. When the great Virat Kohli steps up & you miss a chance against him you’re gonna suffer because they don’t give many chances after that.”

“I think you just feel the presence when these people(Virat & KL Rahul) walk to the crease it’s like bowling to Lara, you know that all of a sudden the temperature goes up and up. Virat is hungry, he wants to leave this Test series with a hundred under his belt.”

Bangladesh bowlers indeed had the last laugh in the 1st innings in Mirpur. Virat Kohli might have to come up with another plan to end his Test century drought. In 2022, he overcame the challenge of scoring a ton in T20Is and then smashed his 44th ODI ton before the start of the series.

His next chance would be against touring Australia at home in February 2023. Till the time he gets the three-figure mark in Test cricket, his fans won’t be able to breathe a sight of relief, that’s for sure.
