IND vs BAN Live: Team India might be tempted to bring in their leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal into the playing XI replacing senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for their group stage clash of the T20 World Cup against Bangladesh. Ashwin picked just 1 wicket and conceded 43 runs in his 4 overs in the last match, emerging too costly. Hence, the team might pick Chahal as the spinner in the next match. Chahal has not played any match in the tournament so far. Follow India vs Bangladesh LIVE and T20 World Cup 2022 LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

The only advantage that Ashwin holds over Chahal is that Bangladesh have several left-handed batters in their team including the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib al Hasan, and Afif Hossain among others. As the numbers speak for themselves, Ashwin is a much better bowler against left-handed batters as compared to right-handed batters which could work him an advantage against Chahal.
The same logic was applied by India in their previous clash against South Africa as the Proteas had three genuine left-handed batters including Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Rilee Rossouw. However, Miller took Ashwin to the cleaners as he smoked him for two back-to-back maximums and took control of the game.
Ashwin or Chahal, who is a better pick?
- Ashwin has played 11 matches for India and picked just seven wickets this year.
- He has been bowling more faster bowls like the carrom ball than the traditional off-spin.
- Chahal has played 19 T20I matches this year and has scalped 21 wickets so far.
- The leg-spinner played his last T20I game against Australia in September.
- Ashwin has an economy rate of 6.10 against left-handed batters as compared to 8.36 against right-handed batters.
The upcoming game between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Adelaide Oval which is known to produce batting-friendly tracks. The skipper Rohit Sharma might be tempted to bring in Chahal in place of Ashwin, but team India cannot ignore the fact that Ashwin has good numbers against the left-handed batters and he can play a crucial role for his side in a must-win clash.
