Okay, so no one knows why the IND vs BAN second Test isn’t resuming. After rain disrupted the proceedings on day 1 with the visitors at 107/3, many would have hoped for a speedy start. But that hope hasn’t fructified till now, and we have lost two crucial days in the Test. In short, this means that India is going to win the series 1-0, as it doesn’t look like that a result is possible from the match now.
Kanpur Weather Plays Spoilsport
But here, more than the players, the fans are at a loss. And none of the stakeholders have a clear reason, as to what went wrong, or what the exact reason for missing out on two day’s entire play was. As per a report in Cricbuzz, when at 12 PM on Sunday, it was announced that ‘next inspection will take place at 2 PM’, ‘due to bad light’, fans were only left bewildered. This, when it was clear, blue sky over the Green Park.
Who is Responsible for Loss of Play in IND vs BAN
But it is not something that only happened on Sunday. On Saturday, play did not start on pretext of ‘constant drizzle’. But then, as per IANS, the Kanpur pitch curator came up with his version. He said, “they gave us 3 different times for inspection, but never told us what is the issue. Which area was wet or whatever is the problem. I told them that you can start the match, if you have any concerns let me know.”
A frustrated fan went on to say that the condition looked worse than Pakistan, where they even used helicopter to dry the ground. “I’ve travelled to watch cricket in all parts of the country, to Indore, to Bangalore, where it has rained. But I’ve never seen the resumption of cricket take so long. You see organizers do all sorts of things, use iron machine, hairdyers to dry the ground. You can see them make the effort.
“In Pakistan, they brought an entire helicopter to dry the ground. On the other hand, we saw nothing of that sort today from the organisers here. Even the super-soppers that are available, were not being used. There was no rain, the covers were off and all they were hoping for was the sun to come and dry out the ground.”
Having said that, this doesn’t match the version of the Green Park director. “All covers have been arranged for the pitch, there are two super soppers and the drainage system is in place,” he had said. “Recently, we encountered the most torrential rainfall, but our stadium wasn’t impacted. Humara Test bhagwaan ne le liya hai, baaki ishwar jaane (God has tested us, now we leave the rest to almighty). Perhaps, in jest, the director might have clarified, that only god knows when the match will start.
