IND vs AUS: Weather a concern for Sydney Test, heavy rain predictions on day 5

IND vs AUS: Team India is in a do-or-die situation, where they need to win the SCG Test, in order to keep their hopes alive to make the WTC final.

As it is Team India’s chances of making it to the WTC final vs South Africa were really slim, and now, they might take a further hit in the IND vs AUS SCG Test, starting from Jan 3. As India trails 2-1 in the series, and are on the verge of losing their first Border Gavaskar since 2014-15, now it is expected that rain might play a spoilsport in the match on Day 5.

India’s Chances to Make WTC Final Diminish

As per AccuWeather, at least two hours of rain is expected on the day, that might disrupt the proceedings. The probability of precipitation also remains — a very high 80%. In fact, there is a 23% chance of a thunderstorm as well. Meanwhile, BBC Weather predicts there could be some afternoon rain on the first day of the match itself.

Team India has been struggling on the current tour, where a report has shaken the entire country. As per a report in Indian Express, after losing the MCG Test by 184 runs, head coach Gautam Gambhir lost his cool in the dressing room, and told the players, ‘bohat ho gaya’. The report further suggested a rift in the team, where the top players and the management aren’t on the same page regarding the playing XI selection.

All is Not Well in Team India

It was revealed that Gambhir also wanted Cheteshwar Pujara in the team, but his requests were not heeded by the selection panel. In addition, there is no clarity over skipper Rohit Sharma’s future in the Test team, plus there are injury concerns too. As per another report in Indian Express, pacer Akash Deep has suffered a back injury, and Harshit Rana is most likely to take his sport in the XI for the SCG Test.
