IND vs AUS Test Series: Border Gavaskar Trophy – With the Nagpur test set to be on a rank turner, Rohit Sharma and Co are bracing themselves for a spin test during the training camp. The BCCI has called up both Washington Sundar and Saurabh Kumar to the nets in Nagpur. The all-rounders are filling in as net bowlers, alongside IPL stars Rahul Chahar and R Sai Kishore. The quartet join India’s existing quarter of Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar and Kuldeep as preparations continue in full flow in Nagpur. Follow India vs Australia LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

Snubbed from the test squad, BCCI have gone back to Washington Sundar and Saurabh Kumar to aid India’s preparations for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian team are currently training at the old VCA Stadium in Nagpur, and Sundar and Saurabh alongside Sai Kishore and Rahul Chahar have joined the squad.

With Mohammed Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat in the squad, the BCCI have not added any more pacers. However, some local net bowlers have been employed at the nets. If there is any doubt about how spin-friendly the surfaces might be, India training with an 8-spinner attack is enough to put those to rest.

Saurabh Kumar was called up to the India squad a couple of times most recently during the Tour of Bangladesh. He is yet to make his debut. Sai Kishore and Rahul Chahar have performed well in the IPL and in domestic cricket. Sundar meanwhile has not played a Test match since 2021 due to a combination of injury issues. The rise of Axar Patel has also delayed his return. Nonetheless, the off-spinner is considered a crucial cog in India’s preparation for the series.

The squad already boasts four quality spinners. Ravindra Jadeja is back in the mix, while Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are all part of the squad. Only three of them are set to make the XI, when the first test kicks off in Nagpur on February 9.

The Men in Blue have already begun training. Rohit Sharma and Co had a long net session at the old VCA Ground in Nagpur. The likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja all faced throwdowns ahead of what is a crucial series.  There are two more sessions at the old VCA Ground in Nagpur. India will then move to the Stadium in Jamtha, where the series opener will be played.

The four-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is also part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. Jasprit Bumrah missing the series is a big blow for India as India must win the series 2-0 or 3-1 to qualify for the WTC Final in June. The first Test of the series begins on February 9 in Nagpur. The last two Tests are scheduled to be held across the first two weeks of March.

India squad Australia Series: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav.
