IND vs AUS: Statistically, Jasprit Bumrah is India’s best bowler in Australia, surpasses another legend

IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah has been excellent in this series, picking up 19 wickets already in three matches only.

Indian ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has a knack of picking up wickets at will. In the ongoing IND vs AUS Test series as well, he has just shown why he is the best in the business. So far, into the third Test in Brisbane, Bumrah has picked up 19 wickets already, and that took him past a major landmark.

Jasprit Bumrah — The Best

On Wednesday, Jasprit Bumrah surpassed Kapil Dev to become India’s leading wicket-taker Down Under — with 52 wickets. Kapil had 51 scalps from 11 matches, while the 31-year-old removed Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne to surpass the legendary all-rounder.

Having said that, they remain the only two Indian bowlers to take 50 or more wickets in Australia, with Anil Kumble being the next best at 49 wickets. Among current bowlers, R Ashwin is in the fourth spot with 40 wickets, followed by Bishan Singh Bedi at 35. In the best among any visiting bowler, Curtly Ambrose leads the charts with 78 wickets in 14 matches.

IND vs AUS

As far as the Brisbane Test is concerned, it continued to be a rain-affected match, where play was stopped on all days due to bad weather. After the hosts scored 445 in the first innings, India responded with 260 largely due to the efforts of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah-Akash Deep, who strung a partnership of 47, to avoid the follow on.

Come the second innings, the Indians seemed to have gained some momentum, and picked up quick Aussie wickets. Apart from Bumrah picking up two, Akash Deep also bagged as many, and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with one, to reduce them to 33/5 only.
