IND vs AUS: Border-Gavaskar Trophy – India are missing the services of star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia. The 25-year-old is out of action with multiple injuries after being involved in a tragic car accident on December 30, 2022. His heroics were recalled by the crowd on the second day of the second India-Australia Test, when India was suffering at 139 for seven. India legend, Sunil Gavaskar said he missed Pant’s voice behind the stumps and sent the injured hero a heartfelt message, adding that it wasn’t the only reason he was missing Pant. During commentating on the second Test, Gavaskar was heard saying, “Australia are lucky that Rishabh Pant is not there. He would have had a fair bit to say, not necessarily to the batters but certainly to his teammates. Rishabh if you are listening, we are missing you, get well soon.”
As one of India’s top batters in red-ball cricket, Rishabh’s absence in the current Border-Gavaskar series is felt by the entire country. He has frequently assisted India in escaping trouble and putting the opposition under pressure in the red-ball format of the game with his attacking strategy.

Rishabh was well-known for his on-field antics, including his constant chit-chat with the players nearby and, occasionally, his cheeky mocking of opposing batters in an effort to put them under pressure. Pant will require an additional seven to eight months to recuperate entirely from the injuries. He will miss the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League and there’s no official confirmation of his participation in the ODI World Cup later this year as well.
