IND vs AUS: Steve Smith feels Nagpur pitch might aid spinners, Pitch Curator to cut off grass

“Pitch is very high, at least one end, spinning in for our left-handers. I think it will be a bit skiddy, slow but not entirely sure,” this is what Smith said in the press conference. For the unreserved, the Nagpur pitch curator is likely to take off some of the grass before the start of the first Test. Although India made it clear that they want sporting pitches, it seems Nagpur’s pitch is likely to be a rank-turner.

“We want to maximize our advantage and prepare turners. Spinners are our biggest strength and we should give them the best conditions to bowl and get wickets,” a source in the team told Indian Express.

As per an Indian Express report, the Indian team have asked for a rank turner for the 1st Test starting on February 9. Exponentially turning tracks have been the feature of home Tests over the last few years, and India are sticking to their guns. On Monday, while the pitch was dressed in a green cover, there were brown patches on offer. The grass is likely to be shaved off as Rohit Sharma once again banks on his spinners.

India are set to play four spinners, with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav playing the supporting roles to Ashwin and Jadeja. Australia are also likely to go with two spinners in their playing XI for Nagpur Test.
