IND vs AUS ODI: Glenn Maxwell injury – Glenn Maxwell is one step closer to making a comeback to international cricket. “Probably will nag at me for the rest of my life,” said Maxwell while doing commentary during a Big Bash League game on Fox Cricket. “It’s nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they’ve got the squad that’s probably as good as I’ve seen to go over to India since I’ve been watching Tests over there, anyway.”
Glenn Maxwell faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a freak injury saw him break his left fibula in November. Such was the seriousness of his injury, that the Australian had to re-learn how to walk. However, after some hardcore rehabilitation, Maxwell is in line for an early comeback. The 34-year-0ld is expected to return for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield on February 9.
The swashbuckling superstar was in line for a call-up to the Australian squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, the injury ruled him out of contention. He could still come in as a replacement midway through the series. The possibility of the same seems unlikely with Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw ahead in the pecking order.
A more realistic comeback would be during the ODI series in March. While he has resumed batting in the nets, Maxwell’s ability to confidently slide and dive in the field will be a key factor before a return for Australia.

Behind Maxwell’s early comeback is his rigorous training. As per The Age, the 34-year-old used an ice compression machine on his foot for three to four hours every night. He also spent time with the AFL team St Kilda, using their antigravity treadmill.
While his return bodes well for Pat Cummins, Faf du Plessis and RCB will also breathe a sigh of relief. The franchise took the call to retain their star all-rounder for Rs 11 Cr ahead of IPL 2023. Maxwell forms an integral part of the Bangalore-based franchise as they look to lift their maiden IPL title. He has been sublime for the last two seasons, scoring over 800 runs for the team.
