With Rishabh Pant unavailable, the Indian captain took it upon himself to be the aggressor in chief. The ploy worked, as he reached another half-century. The innings will give huge confidence to him, having missed the last few Test matches due to injury.
Rohit also continues his good run of form in home Tests. It his 7th fifty in India, to add to his 7 centuries. He averages well above 70, and is in a league of his own. Among all batters, only Sir Don Bradman has a better Test average on home soil.
Rohit will look to convert his 50 into century when he steps on the field on Day 2. Should he do so, he’d become the first captain to score centuries across all three formats.
