The much-anticipated return for Rohit Sharma at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) didn’t bow well. After missing the first Test due to the birth of his newly born baby boy, Rohit joined the Indian team midway through the first Test in Perth. He trained hard and even played the practice game against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra. The Indian skipper sacrificed his opening spot to continue with the successful KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Rohit’s middle-order return failed as he got out for just 3 runs in the 2nd BGT Test in Adelaide.
Rohit Sharma fails to inspire in 2nd IND vs AUS Test
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first on a greenish Adelaide track. Mitchell Starc had the Indian batters on the floor, taking a wicket off the very first ball. But Shubhman Gill looked good in the middle before his dismissal led Rohit to the crease. He batted at number six, a position where he started his Test career, and did superbly as well. Despite his failure, he still averages above 52 at number six.
Rohit tried to negotiate the early trouble but was undone by an in-swinger by Scott Boland. Like all Indian batters, Rohit played at the frontfoot but failed to hit the ball and got trapped plumb in front. While he discussed about taking DRS with Pant, sense prevailed, and he walked straight back to the Indian dressing room.

High time for Rohit Sharma to pull up big scores in 2024
Rohit may have led Team India to a much-needed T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, but there’s no denying that he has been a shadow of himself in the longest format. In fact, ever since India’s home season began in September this year, he has failed miserably, scoring just one fifty in 11 innings. He has averaged a miserable 12.36 since then, a low that we usually don’t associate with the Hitman. One can argue that his selflessness in white-ball format has affected his Test game. But regardless, Rohit has the entire BGT to make amends.
