IND vs AUS: Mohammed Siraj fined 20% of match fee, Travis Head sanctioned for abusing

After dismissing Head in Adelaide, Siraj gave the batter a send-off, following which the two exchanged words.

Mohammed Siraj has been penalised 20% of his match fee following his verbal battle with Travis Head in the India vs Australia 2nd Test. The pacer had dismissed Head for 140 and gave an animated send-off to the batter. The southpaw wasn’t having any of what Siraj dished out at his home ground, the Adelaide Oval, and said some choice words to the pacer.

Siraj & Head sanctioned from breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Siraj has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for “using language, actions, or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.” Meanwhile, Head has been sanctioned for breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for “abusing a player, player support personnel, umpire, or match referee during an international match.”

Head hasn’t been fined, but both have received one demerit point for their first such offence in the last 2 years/24 months. Both players accepted the sanctions that were imposed by Ranjan Madugalle, the match referee for the India vs Australia 2nd Test.

Things all good between Siraj & Head?

There was palpable tension between the two opponents. Much was made of it as well. Head had taken the high gerund, claiming he’d said ‘well bowled’ before Siraj abused him, but the pacer had denied Head ever saying so. The media and fans were torn. Some said Siraj went overboard, while others said he was just showing emotions. The issues continued even after the day’s play, but both the players showed they were mature enough to move ahead.

Siraj and Head hashed things out in the second innings of the Adelaide Test. When the pacer came out to bat, he was seen having a rather relaxed conversation with Head, who was fielding at short leg. After the match, both even shared a hug and will start the Brisbane Test with no animosity.
