The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is set to witness a historic moment as Australia’s 19-year-old prodigy Sam Konstas takes the field in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Born and raised in Sydney’s Hurstville neighbourhood, Konstas will become the youngest Australian to play a Test at the iconic venue since its first international match 142 years ago in 1882.
IND vs AUS: Which record will Sam Konstas break?
Konstas, who will be 19 years and 93 days old when the Test begins on January 3, will surpass Gervys Hazlitt’s record of 19 years and 100 days, set in 1907. For Konstas, playing at the SCG will surely hold a massive significance. The crowd at MCG loved him. Konstas was having one and enjoyed the best he could in this BGT Test. He clicked photos with fans right after his dismissals, had a fun session with the crowd while fielding and even had a banter with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Having debuted just days earlier on Boxing Day, Konstas has already made a name for himself with a scintillating 60 off 65 balls, including fearless ramp shots against Jasprit Bumrah. His aggressive batting and vibrant personality are something that the Aussie fans would cherish for a long time. His audacious style earned admiration from veteran Steve Smith, who called him “mad” for his chirpy on-field demeanor and fearless batting. Smith added, “He’s brought great energy and confidence to the team. He’s a real talent with a bright future.”
