IND vs AUS LIVE: Dinesh Karthik vs Tim David who have fared better?
- When Mumbai Indians signed Tim David for INR 8.25 crore (AUD 1.5 million) at the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, it proved how much sought-out T20 batter he had become in past 12 months.
- Tim David has made his name in the current Aussie set-up without being part of national and state contract system.
- Surprisingly, his only contract in Australian game is with Hobart Hurricanes.
- David, a powerful 6ft 5in middle-order hitter, has also played 14 T20 Internationals for Singapore.
- David established himself as one of the top finishers in the world by finishing the PSL season with 278 runs at 39.71 and a staggering strike-rate of 194.40, while playing for Multan Sultans.
- Despite being dropped early in the competition, David faced 86 balls in the IPL 2022 and smashed 16 of them for six, concluding the season with the best strike rate for a batter in a single campaign (minimum 50 balls).
- Overall in T20 cricket, Tim David averages 32.48 with a strike rate of 164.12.
- Challenging the 26-year-old Aussie batter in the series will be veteran Men in Blue star Dinesh Karthik, who a year after featuring as a commentator, is now back in Team India set-up as a blistering finisher.
- In IPL 2022, the 37-year-old started knocking the doors of selectors for his return in Team India set-up.
- Karthik had a death-overs strike rate of 220 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Only Jos Buttler (236.53) fared better among batters who faced at least 50 balls between overs 17 and 20.
- The seasoned talent scored 330 runs while participating in 16 IPL games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
- Karthik was then brought back to the team due to his performance in IPL for the home series against South Africa and the away series against the West Indies, and he has since been a crucial part of the group.
