The BCCI on Sunday confirmed that Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was absent from Team India squad travelling to Indore to play the 2nd ODI of the IND vs AUS Series.
The BCCI in a statement released on social media said Bumrah was given some time-off to be with his family.
The statement further added that Mukesh Kumar was called up to the squad as a replacement.
“He (Bumrah) has gone to visit his family and given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah’s replacement for the 2nd ODI,” the statement read.
Notably Bumrah announced the birth of his son earlier this month.
Jasprit Bumrah left the Team India squad during Asia Cup to attend the birth of his first child. He was absent from the squad during the India vs Nepal match.
Bumrah had missed about a year’s cricket before he came back to the Indian side for leading a rather young Indian side during the Ireland tour. The right-arm pacer was right on the money as he was adjudged player of the series with Men in Blue completing an easy win over the Irish side.
India registered a comfortbale 5-wicket win over Australia in the first ODI. Mohammed Shami was the star with ball as his five-wicket haul helped KL Rahul-led India to bundle out Australia for 276.
In reply, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 142-run opening stand and scored brilliant fifties to put India in front. Despite losing few quick wickets, fifties from Rahul and Surykumar Yadav ensured a crucial win for the hosts.
