IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah breaks Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for most wickets in away Test series for India

Jasprit Bumrah surpasses Bishan Singh Bedi to become India's top wicket-taker in an Australian Test series, with 32 wickets in Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India’s star player Jasprit Bumrah has once again proved himself as one of cricket’s finest bowlers by setting a new record on Day 2 of the IND vs AUS 5th Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, on January 4. The Indian fast bowler surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for the most wickets by an Indian in an Australian Test series. Bumrah now has 32 wickets, achieved after dismissing Marnus Labuschagne, overtaking Bedi, who had 31 wickets. Bumrah is also currently the top wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne in the SCG Test so far.

Most number of wickets in BGT 2024-25

Along with setting the record, Jasprit Bumrah is also currently the top wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The bowler has performed brilliantly, keeping the batter on the toes. Bumrah has 32 wickets so far. Meanwhile, other top wicket-takers are Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc from Australia. Cummins has 22 wickets, while Starc has 18.

Bumrah shone with Bat as well

In the ongoing fifth Test against Australia, India’s captain on the place of Rohit Sharma for the Test, Bumrah shone with the bat before taking two wickets. Coming in at No. 10, he smashed 22 runs off 17 balls, hitting three fours and a six. He built a 20-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Prasidh Krishna (3) and added 17 runs for the 10th wicket with Mohammed Siraj (3), helping India reach 185 runs in 72.2 overs in their first innings.
