IND vs AUS: “He will play for 3-4 years” – Ravi Shastri opens up on Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma’s future

IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both have been poor in the ongoing series, where runs have been hard to come by for both.

There have been a lot of rumours surrounding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma‘s future in the Test team, given their poor form in the current IND vs AUS series. While Virat has been patchy — had scored a hundred in the Perth Test, Rohit has been poor as skipper and a batter, averaging under 5 in these Tests. In fact, there were reports that chief selector Ajit Agarkar was in Melbourne to discuss his future.

Virat Kohli Will Continue

On the other hand, there were also calls that Rohit should retire midway through the IND vs AUS series, and Jasprit Bumrah be handed the reigns of the team, for the Sydney Test. But then, any call on this would not be taken immediately obviously. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who has seen this team from close quarters, believes that Virat Kohli still has a lot of cricket left in him, while Rohit Sharma might have to take a call at the end of the series.

Rohit Sharma Might Not

“Virat will play, forget the way he got out, I think he will play for another 3-4 years. Talking about Rohit, it is call at the top of the order. the footwork is not the same. so it is his call at the end of the series,” he said on Hotstar during the broadcast.

Just for the record, Virat in 4 Test this series has scored 167 runs at an average of 27, including a ton. Rohit has been poor having scored only 31 in 3 matches at an average of 6, that has really cast a shadow on his place in the team. With the two senior batsmen failing, Team India has also struggled in this department, where they have failed to string partnerships consistently.

Yashavi Jaiswal has been the best batsman for India in the series, where he has scored 298 runs at an average close to 50, including a ton and a fifty.
