IND vs AUS: Gautam Gambhir flies back home citing “personal reasons”, to miss tour game – Report

IND vs AUS: After India's shock 0-3 drubbing at home, Gautam Gambhir's team bounced back in Perth to register a win.

In what could be a big blow to Team India, head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly flown back home, after their historic win in the first IND vs AUS Test at Perth. It seems that the move is rather unexpected, as there was no clear plan from Gambhir, to head back home after the first encounter. As per a report, the head of the team informed the BCCI, about his return.

No Gautam Gambhir with Team India

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Gambhir flew back due to “personal reasons”, and there is no clarity about his return to Australia. Report in the Indian Express went on to reveal that the BCCI had no problem in accepting the request. “Gambhir has informed us that he will be travelling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons and the BCCI has accepted his request.”

Coming to the IND vs AUS second Test, the Indian team is expected to fly to Canberra on Wednesday, where they will play a two-day pink ball tour match, and Gautam Gambhir won’t be part of that match too. As for the practice for the second Test, that is expected to begin only on Saturday, later this week.

Rohit Sharma In-charge

On the other hand, Team India regular skipper Rohit Sharma had already joined the team during the first Test, and will take over the reigns now, from Jasprit Bumrah. The 37-year-old had missed the Perth Test due to the birth of his second child.

In the first match of the series, Team India registered a thumping 295-run victory, when the odds were stacked against them. After being dismissed for only 150 in the first innings, they made a massive comeback, as the Aussies were bundled out for only 104. From there on, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli smashed tons to take the team to 487; and then the opposition was bowled out for 238.
