Sarfaraz Khan has been a run machine on the domestic circuit for the past three seasons however he is yet to be considered for national selection. Time and again critics have been calling for his inclusion in the national set-up on the basis of his current form. Venkatesh Prasad, on the other hand, had recently applied for the selectors’ post.  However, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) rejected Prasad’s application for the selector’s role.

Taking to social media, Prasad slammed the selectors over Sarfaraz’s omission. He said, “ Not having him in the Test Team despite 3 blockbuster domestic seasons is not only unfair on Sarfaraz Khan, but it’s an abuse to domestic cricket, almost as if this platform doesn’t matter. And he is FIT to score those runs. As far as body weight goes, there are many with more kgs”.

Following the century on Day 1, Sarfaraz credited his father for keeping him motivated despite the selection snub. He said, “My father was here. I practised with him in the past two days in Ghaziabad. He knew I was sad so he came from Mumbai to meet me. He told me that we just need to score runs, be it for India or in the Ranji Trophy. If we keep playing, the runs will come. So, he keeps motivating me and boosts my morale whenever I’m sad or I get frustrated. He helps me prepare mentally for every situation,”.
