IND vs AUS: KL Rahul’s spot in the Indian Test team has come under scrutiny. The opening batter has endured horrendous show with the bat in the tour of Bangladesh. While he led India to 2-0 series victory as the stand-in skipper, he managed just 57 runs in the series. While fellow opener Shubman Gill shined with the bat, skipper Rohit Sharma is also set to return for the next Test series against Australia in March. This has resulted in several former cricketers opining that Rahul should be dropped from the team once Rohit makes a comeback. Follow Cricket News and LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer believes Rahul will be dropped for the upcoming series against Australia. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said, “KL Rahul has to go without a doubt, in my opinion. He had a pretty ordinary series as a batsman. If Rohit Sharma comes in, KL has to make a way.”
Rahul managed scores of 22,23, 10 and 2 in the four innings that he played in Bangladesh. Earlier in the ODI series too Rahul was inconsistent with the bat. Apart from one innings where he scored 73, he could manage just 14 and 8 in the next two matches.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill grabbed his opportunity in the series as he slammed his maiden Test ton in the first match. However in the second Test he also struggled as he managed just 27 runs from the two innings.

Highlighting Rahul’s poor average, Dinesh Karthik too had his say on the batsman.
“The one thing that does go against him is the fact that he has played over 40 Tests and his average is just mid-30s. That is not acceptable for an opener. That is one of the lowest among Indian players for sure, who have played 35 Test matches,” said Karthik speaking to Cricbuzz.
Rahul will miss the upcoming limited overs series against Sri Lanka owing to his marriage. It remains to be seen whether he makes his return to the Indian team for the subsequent limited overs series against New Zealand at home.
